The art of travel

So, we board the plane, so far so good.  The nice steward takes our tickets and starts to escort us to our seat.  Now, I don't know about you, but being escorted anywhere for me tends to spell either trouble or the fact that I have done something wrong and a sense of concern starts to materialise.  Nevertheless, I duly follow said escort through the kitchen and through business.  At this point I really am starting to expect one of those airport security checks that you only read about in magazines.  Just as I am about to run from the plane screaming "it wasn't me" I arrive at my seat, nay bed, nay mansion on a plane and (now nice and not at all dubious prison guard-esque steward) asks if I want some champagne.  Because oh yes the lovely husband has only gone and booked us on first-class to San Fran! Woo and double-hoo.  I shan't bore you with the entire details of the ten hour flight (as much as I would like to) but there are some salutary points to note:  1. I am completely gullible and did fall for the fact that we were sitting in the members-club style lounge, complete with free Elemis Spa because Jonathan "had points from flying to Toronto"; 2. I have NEVER (and suspect will never have again) been served an amuse-bouche on a freaking plane before; and 3. Given the opportunity I will remove anything I can get my hands on from the plane - pyjamas, wash bags, the list goes on.

However, the seat of awesomeness is not the only travel treat in store.  As after we land, we pick up the car for our road trip.  That's right ladies and gents, we are driving around California in a yellow convertible Mustang.  The thing is pure genius and pictures will be loaded soon.  We did of course insist on driving to Santa Cruz with the top down notwithstanding that San Fran at 6pm last night wasn't that warm...

So, to Santa Cruz.  We are staying at the Adobe Inn, a great vegetarian B&B.  We arrived late last night so had a quick look round to get some food etc.  Santa Cruz looks like a film set and there are buskers, dogs (and even the odd pet rabbit) on every corner.  It also seems to be a remarkably vegetarian friendly place. We will be leaving for Big Sur shortly but before we do are going to head back into Santa Cruz for a bucket of coffee and a big ole Californian brekkie to set us up for our trip.

I told you this was going to be good!!

Until the next post (where I will try to use less extraneous exclamation marks in), AD xx
